Preview: A history of God’s chosen. This is the eighth lesson in a thirteen-part series of lessons on this subject.

Scripture Reading: Deuteronomy 29:1-15.

Memory Verse: Deuteronomy 30:16.

1. Did Moses make it clear to the people in the foregoing Scriptures that their blessings in their new land would depend on their love and obedience to God?
2. Was Moses fearful that the people would forget that the land and blessings were gifts from God? Deuteronomy 6:10-13, Deuteronomy 8:1-4 & Deuteronomy 8:17-18.
Note: Poor Moses knew these stubborn people better than anyone else. Because of them he knew he would never enter in the covenant land of promise, Deuteronomy 3:24-27. Yet, he loved them and feared for their future. The more prosperous the Church becomes, the less the people regard their Lord. Prosperity can be more destructive than poverty. Revelation 3:14-19.
3. How did Moses remind them of their rebellious past? Deuteronomy 9:3-7.
Note: Each of us who are in the Body of Christ should always remember that it is only by God’s love and grace that we are redeemed. Let us follow Moses’ example of compassion for those who are lost. “Judge not, and ye shall not be judged…” Luke 6:37.
4. How important is it that all of God’s Laws and precepts be taught consistently to our children? Deuteronomy 6:4-9.
5. Did God promise to give Israel new hearts (circumcision) if they would turn to Him? Deuteronomy 30:5-8 & Romans 2:28-29.
6. Was the choice up to the people? Deuteronomy 30:11-20.
7. Is this true for the Church today? Jude 1:1-7.
Note: We are prone to loving the gift more than the Giver. It is easy to look for material blessings instead of spiritual wealth. That is idolatry.
8. What was the most destructive thing that Israel could do? Deuteronomy 7:1-6 & Deuteronomy 7:25-26.
9. What would happen to Israel if they loved the gift (land) more than the Giver? Deuteronomy 8:19-20, Deuteronomy 28:14-22 & Deuteronomy 28:45-46.
Note: Look at the world condition today, especially the USA where the government has outlawed God and His righteousness; where the churches are trying to evangelize the world, while they deny God’s Laws and precepts for fear of being legalistic. Because of this we see a lawless nation because of a lawless church society. So many spiritual leaders are seeking and preaching God’s blessings while they preach against His standards (Laws). They try to teach man love without knowing there is no love apart from obedience.
10. Can we love God and accept His grace without honoring and obeying His Laws? I John 5:2-3 & Matthew 15:8-9.
