Preview: A study of how, why, and when we should witness for God. This is the fifth lesson in a thirteen-part series on this subject.

Scripture Reading: Philippians 1:1-21.

Memory Verse: Romans 1:16.

1. Is it essential that a true witness have no fear or shame in proclaiming the Gospel according to the foregoing Scriptures? Discuss.
2. Must a witness stick to the Word of God with a spirit of love for those who are lost? Expand. II Timothy 2:23-26, II Timothy 4:1-2.
3. Why should this still be our message and attitude even though they reject the Word? II Timothy 4:3-5.
Note: Regardless of how others respond to us and the message of truth, we should not retaliate in like manner. If we are God’s messenger, and we speak His Words, it is God (not us) that they reject. Pray for them.
4. Is there encouragement in the Word even if all the congregation lets you down? II Timothy 4:14-18.
Note: At one point the Church had not stood by Paul in his ministry. He prayed for them and recognized that God was always there for him because he was doing God’s will. Let us remember that God has not changed.
5. What was Paul’s testimony at the end of his life? Acts 20:20-26, II Timothy 4:6-8.
Note: If we hope to have this same assurance at the end of our days we also must teach and live the same salvation message with the same spirit of meekness and love.
6. What method and spirit did Peter teach for effective witnessing? I Peter 4:11-16.
7. Will God judge our message and attitude? Explain. I Peter 4:17-19.
Note: Is your attitude ready for God’s judgment today?
8. What did Jesus say about true witnessing? Matthew 24:7-13, Luke 21:10-13.
9. Did Jesus say that even our own families may hate us for teaching the truth? Discuss. Luke 21:16-17.
10. What promise did He give for faithful witnessing? Luke 21:14-15, Luke 21:18-19.
Note: Witnessing is not for cowards! It may cost you your life. But, even the hairs of your head will be preserved in righteousness. Each of us must decide if the reward is worth the risk. Read Revelation 20:1-15.
