Preview: An introduction to the God of Creation; the only true God. This is the eleventh part of a thirteen-part series of lessons on this subject.

Pre-reading: Genesis 32:1-28, Hebrews 11:1-22 & Malachi 1:1-3.

Scripture Reading: Romans 8:1-16.

Memory Verse: Romans 8:19.

1. Do we find in the foregoing Scriptures that the only way that we can become children of God is by adoption through the Holy Spirit?
2. Do we become joint heirs with Christ through adoption? Romans 8:17-18.
Note: Adoption means to be made a legal member of a family that we are not born into.
3. How did Paul explain this adoption procedure to the Gentiles in Ephesus? Ephesians 1:1-7 & Ephesians 2:11-14.
4. Who are the children of Abraham? Galatians 3:6-9 & Galatians 3:26-29.
5. Did Paul recognize that Israel was adopted? Romans 9:1-5.
6. How many Lords and faiths do we have to choose from? Ephesians 4:4-6.
Note: Many teach that the law was for the Jew only, and grace is the salvation of the Gentiles; but Paul make it very clear that there is only one way to obtain salvation (adoption as a child of God), and that way is accepting by faith the finished work of Jesus Christ at the cross.
7. Did Paul say that this fellowship is a mystery? Ephesians 3:1-9.
8. Are they the heirs of God’s promise just because they are the natural descendants of Abraham? Romans 9:6-8.
9. Who were the children of promise? Romans 9:9-13 & Galatians 4:22-26 & Galatians 4:28-31.
Note: Only Abraham’s descendants through the lineage of Sarah were the children of promise. Isaac was that supernatural child through whom the covenant would continue. His twin sons were Jacob and Esau, but, before they were born, God chose Jacob to carry on the covenant made to Abraham. He called Jacob Israel. The Middle East Wars have been, are now, and will be (until Jesus returns) between the seed of Abraham over God’s promise to him and Sarah, but only the descendants of Jacob are natural Israel. Genesis 32:1-28, Hebrews 11:1-22 & Malachi 1:1-3.
