Preview: This is the seventh part of a thirteen-part series of lessons on this subject.

Scripture Reading: Genesis 22:1-13.

Memory Verse: John 1:29.

1. Discuss from the foregoing Scriptures how Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son depicts our Heavenly Father’s willingness to sacrifice His only begotten Son, Jesus, to redeem us from sin.
2. What was Abraham's understanding of true worship and sacrifice? Genesis 22:5-6.
Note: It had been around 30 years since God had called Abraham out of his homeland and started him on a journey toward total and complete faith and trust. Now he had passed the supreme test. Today, we see much empty and powerless worship because the people who call themselves Christians do not wish to sacrifice their comforts, time, lifestyle, and material things for others, or sacrifice themselves to God.
3. What gave Abraham the courage to offer his son as a sacrifice? Genesis 17:1-8, Genesis 21:1-3, Genesis 21:12 & Hebrews 11:17-19.
Note: Abraham had already seen God’s ability to do the impossible in the birth of Isaac. He now had complete faith in almighty God to fulfill His promise that Isaac was the branch that would be blessed, even if God had to raise him from the dead.
4. How did God respond to Abraham’s complete obedience? Genesis 22:12-13 & Genesis 22:15-18.
5. Was Jesus the seed that would bless the whole earth? Galatians 3:16.
Note: Now we see how the righteous vine grew from Seth to Noah, Abraham, Isaac, and all the way to Jesus.
6. How much land did Abraham own after 52 years of promises? Genesis 23:1-4.
7. What did the people want to give Abraham? Genesis 23:5-6 & Genesis 23:10-11.
8. Did Abraham refuse to accept the land as a gift from the Canaanites? What was his offer? Genesis 23:12-17.
Note: Abraham knew that someday all of the land would be his, because God had said so. He was willing to wait on the Lord to fulfill His promise. We also need to patiently wait on the Lord.
9. What last task did Abraham wish to accomplish before he died? Genesis 24:1-4.
10. Did Abraham still believe that Isaac should remain in the Promised Land even though it belonged to others? What did he say? Genesis 24:5-8.
Note: Let us contend for the same kind of faith that keeps us looking for a city whose builder and maker is God.
