Preview: Choosing where we live and who we associate with is very important for God’s people. Surrounding yourself with either good or evil will affect the way you live your life. ‘Guilty by association’ is not the way anyone wants to be looked at and judged in this life. This is the first part of a two-part lesson on this subject.
Scripture Reading: Genesis 13:1-18.
Memory Verse: Genesis 19:7.
1. What did Abram (Abraham) do when the Lord called him to leave his father’s house? Genesis 12:1-4.
2. What was God’s promise to Abram if he obeyed His calling? Genesis 12:2-5.
Note: When God called Abram (Abraham) to leave, he obeyed. He took Sarai, his wife, and Lot, his brother’s son, with him.
3. Why did Abraham and Lot part ways? What did Abraham tell Lot? Genesis 13:6-9.
4. What choice did Lot make when Abraham told him to choose which part of the country he preferred? Genesis 13:10-11.
5. Where did Lot dwell? Genesis 13:12.
6. What was the character of the men of Sodom? Genesis 13:13.
7. What description is given to this city? Ezekiel 16:49-50 & Genesis 19:1-9.
8. How did their character affect Lot? II Peter 2:7-8.
Note: As a result of choosing Sodom and Gomorrah, Lot lost nearly all his family. The big cities of today are somewhat like this. They have more crime, numerous pleasures, gambling, and liquor. All of this can result in serious family problems. Refer to II Peter 2:9.
