Preview: God’s views on the marriage of His people with those who do not believe in Him are explored in this lesson. This is the first part of a two-part lesson of the same name.

Scripture Reading: II Corinthians 6:1-18.

Memory Verse: II Corinthians 6:14.

1. What sort of marriages were introduced and allowed by the so-called children of God after the fall of man? Genesis 6:1-2.
Note: The sons of God descending from Seth married daughters descending from the line of Cain and thus corrupted the seed of the Church of God itself; all barriers of evil thus being broken down. The whole race was soon corrupted and the flood followed.
2. How did it affect the Almighty God? Genesis 6:5-6.
3. What instructions were given in the New Testament regarding marrying with unbelievers? II Corinthians 6:14-16.
4. What prohibition did God give His chosen people against intermarrying with unbelievers (heathens)? Deuteronomy 7:3.
5. What would the believing element be turned into? Deuteronomy 7:4.
Note: Intermarrying with the ungodly has been a sad mistake by the professed people of God. The Lord has never allowed it.
6. What instructions did God make concerning marriages in the house of God? Numbers 36:6.
7. What mistake did Solomon make concerning marriages? I Kings 11:4.
Note: No Christian can marry an unbeliever without a serious risk of placing himself upon the enemies’ ground. Solomon was an example for us to use so as to not follow in his steps. The great responsibility rests upon parents and guardians, to guard their boys and girls against selecting unbelievers, bad characters, criminals, or insanity in families. This cannot be done by a childish mind.
8. Do the Scriptures advocate a separation after the union has been formed? I Corinthians 7:10-14.
9. Does the Lord approve of separations wherein the one party is unwilling to allow their companion to live his or her conviction? I Corinthians 7:15-16.
Note: Religious division and strife can never be in a happy home. Both ministers and parents should warn the unmarried against improper marriages.
