Preview: This is the third lesson in a four-part series of lessons entitled: LAWS BY WHICH MAN LIVES.
Scripture Reading: Hebrews 11:1-13.
Memory Verse: Hebrews 11:17.
1. Can we see from the foregoing Scriptures that faith is a law within itself? Discuss.
2. Why did the Gentiles receive righteousness and the Jews (as a nation) did not? Romans 2:11, Romans 2:14-15, Romans 9:30-33, Romans 11:20-21.
Note: The Jews had the law but they lacked faith in Christ. The Gentiles accepted Him by faith although they had not been schooled in the law.
3. What proof do we have that the Gentiles are saved by the law of faith? Ephesians 2:8-19.
4. Is there any law by which we can obtain salvation? What is it? Ephesians 3:9, Ephesians 3:16-19, Acts 4:10-12.
5. Who is this stone of stumbling (the chief cornerstone)? Matthew 21:42-45, Ephesians 2:20-22.
Note: Jew and Gentile alike must come to God through faith in this stone. Many people have many gods, but there is only one Lord and Savior: Jesus Christ.
6. What is promised to those who obey the law of faith? Psalm 55:22, I Peter 5:6-10.
7. Can we see a long, enduring faith in the crippled man at the pool? Explain. John 5:2-9.
Note: Most people would have given up hope long before Christ came by and did the work. Whatever our needs are, this story should encourage us to hold on in faith.
8. How important are the Commandments of God once we come to Christ through faith? Discuss. Matthew 5:17-19.
9. Where did God promise to write these laws? Hebrews 8:10-13.
Note: The Jews had God’s laws written on tables of stone, but they rejected Jesus because they lacked faith. When God writes His laws in our hearts and minds, it becomes His dwelling place. It is Christ in us, our hope of glory.
