Preview: A look at the role of prophecy in our salvation.

Scripture Reading: Matthew 16:1-12.

Memory Verse: Matthew 16:6.

1. Why didn’t the Pharisees and Sadducees accept Jesus? Matthew 16:1-3.
Note: They knew the law, but they were ignorant as to the spirit of prophecy.
2. By what may we test religious teachers? Isaiah 8:20.
3. What are the testimonies? Revelation 19:10.
Note: The testimony is the spirit of prophecy, and without the prophecies we are as a blind man.
4. How did Peter regard the prophecies? II Peter 1:19.
5. How should prophecy be interpreted? Where does true prophecy come from? II Peter 1:20-21.
6. What blessing is ours if we read and hear the Book of Revelation? Revelation 1:3.
Note: The Book of Revelation is a book of prophecy. It gives the future so we may know where we are in the stream of time.
7. By what may we test a minister of God? Isaiah 41:21-24.
8. What further did the Lord question? Isaiah 41:26.
9. Can the Lord show forth the future things? Discuss. Isaiah 42:9.
10. Who, and only who, can declare the end from the beginning and from the ancient times? Isaiah 46:10.
Note: The prophecies are written for the saints of God to comfort us, and as a guide to know where we are in the stream of time.

17. How will prophecy affect the unbelievers and the unlearned? I Corinthians 14:24.
18. Why should we covet prophecy? I Corinthians 14:39.
Note: We now better understand why the Pharisees and Sadducees crucified Jesus: they were not students of the prophecies. They committed the greatest crime of all crimes; they crucified the Author and Giver of prophecies. They trusted in the law alone, were blind leaders. Brethren covet to prophecy.
19. How will Christ come to His Church? I Thessalonians 5:4-5.
20. How much will the brethren know of the Word of God? I John 2:20.
