God's Promises Concerning Temptations

Preview: Temptation is a part of every person’s life, but the Lord will not give us more than we can handle. Each temptation is an opportunity to prove ourselves to the Lord and to ourselves that we are strong in our faith and an example to those around us that it can be done.


Scripture Reading: Luke 4:1-14.

Memory Verse: I Corinthians 10:13.

1. Who tempts man? James 1:13.
2. When are we tempted? James 1:14. By whom? Matthew 4:1-3.
3. Why did Satan tempt Jesus? Hebrews 2:9-11, Hebrews 2:17-18.
4. Was Christ tempted in every way that man can be tempted? Did He sin? Hebrews 4:14-15.
5. How did Christ overcome temptations? Luke 4:1-2, Luke 4:4, Luke 4:8, Luke 4:12, John 6:38.
Note: When Christ became flesh, He became subject to sin and temptation, otherwise He could not have been our example. He proved that man can live without sin when he is filled with the Holy Spirit, directed by the Word of God, and desires to do the will of God. Then man becomes the son of God.
6. What did Christ say about temptation? Matthew 26:41.
7. How did He describe those who fall away when tempted? Luke 8:13.
8. How did He say we should pray? Matthew 6:13.
9. Does God permit Satan to tempt His saints? Job 1:6-12. Why? Job 3:1, Job 3:25-26, Job 27:1-6.
Note: Here we see Job declaring God’s goodness, and that his heart would never reproach Him as long as he lived.
10. How did Job see himself when his eyes finally saw God? Job 42:5-6.
Note: God lets us be tried and tested so that we can see what’s really in our hearts.
11. What is promised concerning the testing of our faith? James 1:3, I Peter 4:12-14, I Corinthians 10:13.
