Preview: A lesson on correctly reading and interpreting the Word of God.

Pre-Reading: I Thessalonians 5:1-28.

Scripture Reading: II Timothy 3:1-15.

Memory Verse: II Timothy 2:15.

1. According to the foregoing Scripture Reading and Memory Verse can we possibly have godly wisdom and obedience without knowing the Scriptures? Discuss.
2. Why can we trust the Scriptures to direct us in all things? II Timothy 3:16-17.
Note: Today our educators and leaders are teaching and practicing their own laws and ideas because the Bible (which is the only source of truth) has been barred from classrooms and many other public places. No wonder our youth are rebelling against all authority. Without the authority of God’s Word, there are no absolutes. Everyone is left to do what seems right in their own eyes.
3. Where must we go for true wisdom, and with what attitude? James 1:5-8.
4. How do we obtain this unwavering faith? Ephesians 3:16-19, Romans 10:12-17.
Note: It is impossible for us to have faith in God without hearing the Word of God.
5. What must we do in order to understand the Word of God after we hear or read it? II Timothy 2:14-19, II Timothy 2:22-23.
6. How will it affect our relationship with God when we study His Word and obey it? I John 1:4-7.
7. How did David explain the importance of knowing God’s Word? Psalm 119:41-48, Psalm 119:105, Psalm 119:130.
Note: Even the simple mind becomes wise when filled with the Word of God.
8. What else must we have in order to understand the Word? John 16:7, John 16:13-14, I Corinthians 2:11-14, I Corinthians 2:16.
Note: Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit, which would reveal all truths. Without the Spirit we can never rightly divide the Word. It sounds foolish to those who reject the Spirit of God. It was this same Spirit that revealed this Word to the writers in the first place.
9. How did Peter address this matter? II Peter 1:19-21.
10. What do we need to be accepted into the Kingdom of God? Hosea 4:6, II Thessalonians 2:8-12.
