Preview: The intent of this lesson is to learn how and when to address those situations in our lives that require forgiveness of one another. Not only do we need to acknowledge our own faults and shortcomings, but we need to do the same for our brethren in order for peace to reign in our hearts.

Scripture Reading: Matthew 18:23-35.

Memory Verse: Psalm 51:3.

1. What has God promised to do if we confess our sins? I John 1:9.
2. To whom should we confess our sins and why? Psalm 51:4, Genesis 39:9.
3. Why should we tell a brother of his faults? Matthew 18:15.
4. In what spirit should we point out our brother’s faults? Galatians 6:1.
Note: It is easier to tell someone else of a brother’s faults than to tell him of them yourself, but this is not the instruction left for us by Christ. It is easier also to see the faults of others than it is to see our own.
5. Did Christ teach us forgiveness and why? Mark 11:25.
6. What will happen if we do not forgive? Mark 11:26.
7. What did Joseph say to his brothers to show he forgave them for selling him into Egypt? Genesis 45:5-8.
8. How many times should we forgive one another? Matthew 18:21-22.
9. What did Jesus say to those who nailed Him to the cross? Luke 23:34.
10. What did Stephen say when he was being stoned? Acts 7:59-60.
Note: Christ came to earth and suffered and died for our sins. He left us an example of His life to follow. We must have the same spirit spoken of in Luke 23:34: “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.”
