Preview: A cautionary lesson on how to make sure that those we are following and receiving instruction from are worthy of God’s calling.
Scripture Reading: Jeremiah 23:9-20.
Memory Verse: Jeremiah 23:21.
1. Discuss some of the sins mentioned in the following Scriptures:
a. Adultery and lying lips among leaders. Jeremiah 23:14 (first part), Malachi 2:7-8 & Malachi 2:13-16.
b. Evil conduct encouraged. Jeremiah 23:14 (last part) & Ezekiel 13:22.
c. Teaching false security to evil doers. Jeremiah 23:16-17.
2. Did God send these leaders? Jeremiah 23:21.
3. What is another false security which they offer? Jeremiah 14:13.
4. Do they use the name of the Lord to prophesy their lying dreams and visions? Jeremiah 23:25-26 & Jeremiah 14:14-15.
5. What affect does this have on the people? Jeremiah 23:27, Jeremiah 14:16 & Isaiah 9:15-16.
6. What should they be teaching instead of their dreams? Jeremiah 23:28-32.
Note: Today we hear all kinds of doctrine proclaimed in the name of the Lord. The only thing that stands is the Word of Truth. We must study to show ourselves approved unto God.
7. What was Christ’s warning concerning last day deception? Matthew 24:24-26.
8. Did He or the disciples indicate a secret rapture? Matthew 24:27-31, I Corinthians 15:51-54 & Revelation 1:7.
9. What did He say about deception and the very elect? Mark 13:21-23.
10. How can we judge whether the leaders are true or false? Isaiah 8:20.
11. Should we support them in any way? II John 7-10.
Note: We must try the message by the Word of God. If it is not true, we must have no part in it.
