Preview: What it takes to attain holiness.

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 12:1-13 & Hebrews 12:27-29.

Memory Verse: Hebrews 12:14.

1. Discuss how we attain holiness and its importance to us from the foregoing Scriptures.
2. How is God’s holiness given to men? I Corinthians 6:9-11 & I Corinthians 6:19-20.
Note: Holiness is a spiritual condition which is imparted to man from God by means of His Holy Spirit. Holiness means that one is sanctified by having Christ dwell in ones heart. Without holiness we will not see God.
3. Was it God’s desire that men be holy even before He created man? Ephesians 1:2-6.
4. Can we be holy and not love our fellowman? I Thessalonians 3:12-13.
5. Can we be holy without dying to self? Romans 6:6 & Romans 6:11-13.
6. Must we submit our will to the righteousness of Christ in order for us to be holy? Romans 10:1-4, Romans 10:9-11 & Romans 10:13.
7. Can man ever be self-sufficient apart from the Spirit of God? Romans 8:26-27, II Corinthians 3:5-6, II Corinthians 3:17-18 & II Corinthians 4:6-7.
Note: It is impossible for man to be holy without being filled with God’s Holy Spirit. It is God’s holiness and righteousness that makes us His children. We must remember that His Spirit will not dwell in unclean vessels. Isaiah 52:11.
8. Who alone can add us to God’s true Church? Acts 2:44-47.
Note: Church members who have not been added to the Church by God through the new birth are difficult to witness to. They most often feel that they are saved, and they see faults in everyone else, but seldom in themselves. Unless we do the will of God from the heart, God has not added us to His Church; we would be a cancer in the Body of Christ.
9. What did Jesus call those who are forever finding fault with others but never see their own faults? Matthew 7:1-5.
10. What example did He give us of this self-righteous attitude? Luke 18:10-14.
11. What did Jesus promise to send to man when He knew that His hour had come to depart? John 14:15-18, John 14:26 & John 16:13.
Note: Only those who will accept Christ by faith and obey the Commandments of God can receive the Holy Spirit. Without God’s Spirit there is no holiness, and without holiness, we cannot see God.
