Preview: A lesson to reveal how the Church is organized and who founded it.

Scripture Reading:
Matthew 16:13-24.

Memory Verse:
Matthew 16:20.

1. What is said about those that climb up some other way? John 10:1.
2. Who did Jesus build His church upon? Matthew 16:18, Ephesians 2:20.
Note:
The above text does not read that the Church was built upon Peter alone, but upon the apostles and prophets. Peter was a very small portion of the foundation.
3. Who did David claim to be the Rock? Psalm 28:1.
4. Who was David’s Rock? Psalm 31:1-3.
5. To what Rock did David pray? Psalm 42:9.
Note:
This seems to prove that Jehovah the Father of Jesus is the Rock. If the Church was built upon Peter, we should pray to Peter and look to him to be our Savior.
6. Did Jesus or Peter purchase the Church of God? With what? Acts 20:28.
7. What did Jesus give His Church? Ephesians 5:25.
8. What other foundations can be laid? I Corinthians 3:11.
9. How else can we be saved other than through Jesus? Acts 4:12.
10. How extensive is the power of Christ? Revelation 1:18.
11. What keys did He give His disciples and for what purpose? Matthew 16:19.
Note:
Notice carefully the keys given to men were not the keys of Hell and death. The key of knowledge and understanding will be handled by the Holy Spirit, and guide men in all Church affairs.
12. Is the mystery of God given to the saints of God? Discuss. Matthew 13:10-11.
13. Who is the head of the Church: Christ or Peter? Ephesians 1:20-23.
14. How do we become connected with the Church of God today? Acts 2:47.
15. Are we supposed to have teachers today or can we get along studying the Bible alone? Discuss. Matthew 28:19-20.
16. What was Paul's rebuke of Peter? Galatians 2:14.
17. What was Peter's rebuke of Jesus? Matthew 16:22.
18. How did Jesus receive his rebuke? Matthew 16:23.
Note:
Peter and his disciples had not learned the story of the cross, burial, and resurrection, therefore Peter dared to rebuke Him as the Son of God until He had proved Himself by death, resurrection, and ascension. May the Lord help us to see and rejoice over the fact that the Church was built on God the Father, the Rock, Jesus Christ who is the chief cornerstone, the apostles and the prophets.
