Preview: One of the definitions of the word “blind” is: unable or unwilling to discern or judge. God said of Israel that they had closed their eyes and stopped their ears to keep from hearing; therefore, He was turned away from them. In like manner the same occurs to us when we refuse to obey.

Scripture Reading: Matthew 23:13-23.

Memory Verse: Proverbs 29:18.

1. When we fail to possess certain things what is our condition? II Peter 1:9.
Note: These things are: Virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and charity.
2. What will cause the Gospel to be hid? II Corinthians 4:3-4.
3. What did God tell Israel would happen to them if they turned from Him? Deuteronomy 28:28-29.
4. How are blind watchmen described? Isaiah 56:10-11.
5. What is the result of following blind leaders? Matthew 15:14.
6. What did Jesus further state that blind leaders would do? Matthew 23:24.
7. Where should the cleansing begin? Matthew 23:26.
8. What is one like who is religious but is not inwardly clean? Matthew 23:27-28.
Note: This same thing could be said of many today who are religiously active, but are lacking in one or more of those things we are told to add. The failure to acquire those things means one is blind, can’t see far, and has forgotten that he has been changed, if indeed he has.
9. What did Jesus say when He was questioned about blindness? John 9:40-41.
10. Will there be a distinction made between the servants who know and those who don’t? Luke 12:47-48.
11. What is the result if we don’t do what we know we should? James 4:17.
Note: Every true servant of God desires to know His will. He wants to please God. However, it is not what we know that makes us acceptable to Him, but what we do with what we know. Looking at it from that perspective, it is not one’s lack of knowledge that causes blindness, but failure to practice what one knows.
