Preview: Part one of a two-part lesson on the existence and purpose of angels. This lesson will focus on God’s Heavenly angels.
Scripture Reading: Job 38:1-7.
Memory Verse: Luke 2:10.
1. Is there an invisible world we cannot see? If yes, explain why we cannot see it. Colossians 1:15-16, Isaiah 59:2.
2. How many angels does God have? Daniel 7:10.
Note: In Greek, the highest number they had at the time was 10,000. The Bible says that there are 10,000 times 10,000 and thousand thousands of angels, which is basically saying that they are innumerable.
3. What do angels do? Hebrews 1:14, Revelation 14:6, Psalm 103:20, Exodus 23:20.
4. Do angels watch over us? Explain. Psalm 91:11, Matthew 18:10.
5. How powerful are angels? II Kings 19:35, Acts 12:23.
6. How fast are angels? Daniel 9:20-21.
7. Can there be angels around us without us knowing? Explain. Hebrews 13:2.
8. Why should we not worship angels? Revelation 19:10, Revelation 22:8-9, Colossians 2:18.
9. Do angels have emotions? Luke 15:10.
10. What kinds of angels are there, what do they look like, and what do they do? Isaiah 6:1-3, Genesis 3:24.
Note: There are many false claims about angels and angelology that state there are more types of angels and names of angels than what are mentioned in the Bible. While we do not know if there are more types of angels, we must only look at what the Bible states without leaning unto our own understanding or following the false teachings about angels. Currently, the Bible only mentions three angels by name: Gabriel, Michael, and Lucifer. Any other “named” angel or type of angel you may see mentioned outside of the Bible is only known due to pseudepigrapha (definition: falsely attributed works or texts whose claimed author is not the true author, or a work whose real author attributed it to a figure of the past), which are found in the apocrypha, especially in the Book of Enoch, used by the Catholic Church. Also, some translations of the Bible mention cherubs/cherubim as the beasts referenced in Revelation, but other translations, including KJV does not called them cherubim, so be careful not to assume understanding; that being said, cherubim are not supposed to be understood as babies with wings, they are fearsome, intimidating creatures that guard the separation between Heaven and Earth.
11. What kind of angel is depicted on the Ark of the Testimony? Exodus 25:22, Exodus 37:8.
12. Can cherubim fly? II Samuel 22:11, Psalm 18:10.
13. Explain what similarity the children of God and the angels will have in Heaven. Matthew 22:30.
Note: Many believe that the angels that fell with Lucifer married and procreated with humans, but this is not true. Angels cannot marry and cannot procreate; they are created. The story in Genesis about the creation of giants was talking about the descendants of Seth marrying other men’s daughters (Genesis 6:1-2).
