Should Children Obey Their Parents?

Preview: A lesson on the relationship between children and their parents from a Biblical perspective.


Scripture Reading: Proverbs 4:1-27.

Memory Verse: Proverbs 8:17.

1. What was God’s Commandment to children? Exodus 20:12 & Mark 7:10 (first part).
2. Should children honor their parents because of love or fear or both? Why? Leviticus 19:3, Deuteronomy 6:5, John 15:12 & Psalms 111:10.
3. Should children who are old enough put God or parents first? Matthew 10:37.
4. What will happen to the child who curses his parents? Exodus 21:17, Leviticus 20:9 & Matthew 15:4.
5. Has God warned us of disobedient children in the last days? II Timothy 3:1-2 & Romans 1:28-32.
6. What can a parent do to discourage his child from doing the above items? Do you think this is a parental responsibility? Proverbs 22:6, Ephesians 6:4 & Colossians 3:21.
7. What law did God give Moses concerning a rebellious son? Does any of this apply today? Deuteronomy 21:18-21.
8. What instructions did God give us for little children? Mark 9:36-37 & Matthew 18:4-6.
Note: God wants all children to honor and obey parents, but more importantly, God has given the parent the responsibility of teaching children honor, respect, and obedience. Let us also remember that we are all the children of God.
